Having stayed over a period of three years in Bénin (former Dahomey) as adult education officer and lecturer at „Ecole Normale Supérieure" I was keen on getting to know the socio-ethnic context.
Thus I went once with students to the Yoruba town of Kétou to visit the royal court and take pictures. This helped me to better understand the traditional life and its ongoing importance for the population.
At the entrance of the court there were high posts carved with coloured figures. As you can see on the pictures, the rooms and their decoration were rather modest.

Ayant passé trois ans au Bénin comme expert en éducation des adultes et enseignant á l`ENS, je tenais à connaitre le contexte socio-ethnique. Par conséquent, un jour, je suis allé à Kétou, une ville Yoruba, pour visiter la cour royale et en prendre des photos.
Cela m`aidait à comprendre mieux la vie traditionnelle et son importance continuelle pour la population.
A l´entrée de la cour, il y avait des poteaux élevés sculptés avec des figures multicolores. Comme vous pouvez le voir, les salles et leur décorations étaient plutot modestes.

Da ich als Experte für Erwachsenenbildung und Dozent an der „École Normale Supérieure“ 3 Jahre in Bénin verbrachte, wollte ich unbedingt den sozio-ethnischen Kontext kennen lernen.
Folglich ging ich mit den Studenten einmal nach Kétou, einem Yoruba Zentrum, um den Königshof zu besichtigen und Aufnahmen zu machen.
Dies half mir, das traditionelle Leben und seine fortdauernde Bedeutung besser zu verstehen.
Am Eingang des Hofes gab es hohe Pfosten, die mit farbigen Skulpturen versehen waren. Wie Sie sehen können, waren die Räume und ihre Ausstattung eher bescheiden.
